Abstract
Growth parameters of Scomber japonicus, Dentex macrophthalnus, Sardinella aurita, Umbrina canariensis and Trachurus trachurus taken in Angolan waters are presented. These species represent an important component of the fisheries in Angola as a source of animal proteins, employment and foreign currency. The knowledge of growth parameters is essential because they serve as input for stock assessment models.
In Angola, little is known on the biology of commercial species. Although scattered information exists, either is not published or otherwise unavailable.
The growth parameters presented here were estimated from literature reporting on survey in Angolan waters and/or in the FAO divisions (1.2 15) from commercial vessels.
